Gearing Up for Mentor Connection Year Three

The third program year will focus on nurturing the future talent pool.

Offering a solution to employment shortages affecting our region, the upcoming program year of Mentor Connection will recruit mentees for in-demand positions at local organizations in the Twin Ports.

The second year of Mentor Connection wrapped up this April 10 with the graduation of 57 participating mentees and their mentors. Back in September, these UMD and CSS students were paired with local professionals established in fields related to their areas of study.

Together, mentors and mentees attended six events between October and March which explored topics related to professional development. Held at locations ranging from the Great Lakes Aquarium to the Kitchi Gammi Club (pictured at left), these events also offered insights on how to successfully integrate into the local employment landscape.

In an effort to meet the hiring needs of regional businesses, year three of Mentor Connection will recruit students who have expressed an interest in staying in the Northland to build their careers. While providing networking opportunities, the program as a whole will prepare mentees for positions with companies they would like to work at after graduation.

Between September 2018 and April 2019, participating students will work one-on-one with a mentor who will equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to be successful in a particular position within their field of interest, whether at their mentor’s company or a similar business.
