Mentor Connection: Breaking the Ice at The Great Lakes Aquarium

Year Two of Mentor Connection coordinated by NORTHFORCE officially kicked off at The Great Lakes Aquarium on October 10. Buzzing with high energy, the awesome space was an excellent setting for “ice breaker” conversations between newly matched mentors and mentees as well as plenty of professional networking.

Over one hundred people turned out for the event, which was catered by Mentor Connection sponsor Black Woods and also made possible through the support of UMD, CSS, and the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation.

Fifty-four top students have been matched with established professionals in their field of interest for the 2017-2018 program year, which is off to a great start.

“So far, the feedback we have received from mentors and students is that overall the experience was 100% positive,” says Krissy Johnson, NORTHFORCE Young Professional and Development Consultant and Mentor Connection lead. “Since the kickoff event we have had more professionals approach us asking how they can become a mentor. So we are anticipating growing momentum as the year goes on.”
